Budget Friendly Family Weekend on Broken Bow Lake

Need to get away from all the stress? Need to enjoy life, relax, and spend quality time with your family? Do you enjoy the outdoors, nature, wildlife, and the lake? If you answered yes to these questions, this affordable weekend getaway is for you!

Wilderness Lakefront Resort Cabins are the perfect accommodations for your weekend retreat. You'll enjoy being so close to the lake, surrounded by the forest. You may even see deer or turkey in the morning sitting on the front porch. And you'll find the scenic views and soothing sounds of nature peaceful and relaxing. Call 580-241-5304 to make your reservations or visit the website: www.wildernesslakefrontresort.com.

Friday
After you arrive, you'll want sometime to unwind by the pool, cool off and just relax. Then, the family can enjoy cooking hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill. After you eat, the whole family can go down to the lake for some evening fishing. Be sure and take a couple of chairs, spray with bug repellent, and don't forget to take your camera. You'll definitely want a picture of your children with their fish! When it gets dark, you'll want to go to the fire pit gazebo to sit by a fire, roasting marshmallows for s'mores!

Saturday
Today is a day full of fun and adventure! You'll start by heading to Beavers Bend State Park to canoe 2.5 miles in crystal clear water through the scenic beauty of the park. After you've spend an hour and a half on the water canoeing, you'll want to go to the Forest Heritage Center museum. At the museum, you'll learn about the forestry industry history and view antique tools of the trade. Stop at the one-of-a-kind dioramas painted by the same artist who created smoky bear and listen and learn about the Caddo Indians and paper making. Checkout the chainsaw art and the wood art gallery. You'll even see the rings of a tree dating back to before the civil war! Now that you've canoed and know all about the forestry industry, it's time for a family picnic. Who's up for a game of miniature golf? Who in the family has the skills to get a hole-in-one? After the friendly family golf competition, head over to the swim area and cool off! Wow, it's time to relax and take in the scenery on a train ride through the park. Sit back and enjoy the trip through the woods, over the mountain, and by the water. After a full day at the state park, you're ready to head back to the cabins. After a little swimming in the pool and relaxing, you'll enjoy a family hike in the McCurtain County Wilderness Area or maybe you'd rather take a family bike ride down to the boat ramp. It's time to eat dinner, play some games, and relax by the camp fire. It's been a great day: canoeing, the museum, miniature golf, swimming, a train ride, relaxing and hiking!

Sunday
They say the early bird gets the worm, but for today it's the early bird that gets the fish! Head on down to the water and catch a couple of fish before you have to pack up and head back. Hopefully you'll have a couple good fish stories to tell when you get back home! Although it's your last day of your weekend retreat, you'll want to make the best of it! On your way back, stop in Idabel at the Museum of the Red River where you can experience hands-on work stations. It'll be a great way to end your three day trip! Wow! What a weekend! Hiking, canoeing, fishing, the train ride, museums, campfires, swimming... It's great to get away and enjoy nature and family.

Broken Bow Family Vacation Full of Fun for under $1000

Those dog days of summer are here: time to relax, spend quality time with family, get away from the stress of everyday life, and maybe even embark on a new adventure. Sit back and relax because here's a great trip already planned and budgeted for you!

First, pick your 4 days and 3 nights and reserve cabin 1,2,3, or 4 at Wilderness Lakefront Resort Broken Bow Cabins (www.wildernesslakefrontresort.com) or call 580-241-5304. The cabins have a kitchen with all of the utensils and dishes you'll need to make healthy meals for your family. Plus, the kids will love the swimming pool, the hiking trails, and close access to the water for fishing! There's a great fire pit gazebo where you can have s'mores for dessert or hang out in the pavilion and watch deer, turkey, and humming birds.

Now, decide what food you'll pack for your meals: hotdogs, hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, eggs, bacon, lunch meat, bread, chicken, steaks, veggies for salad. Don't forget the marshmallows, chocolate bars, and graham crackers! Once you take care of the food, you'll just need to get the suitcases packed (don't forget sunscreen and insect repellent), and you'll be ready to go!

Day 1- When you arrive at your cabin, you'll want to spend that afternoon hanging out by the pool, unwinding, relaxing, maybe take a leisurely hike on the trails or read a good book in the pavilion. Be sure to get a good night's rest because tomorrow is full of adventure! And luckily... this place is so peaceful I bet you've never slept better in your life!

Day 2 – Today you're going to canoe down the Mountain Fork River and ride the rapids! It's a 4 hour trip
where you'll ride in the crystal clear, cold water, surrounded by the forest. Bring a waterproof camera because you'll want pictures! After you enjoy the canoe trip, have a nice picnic before you head over to horseback riding! When you're on your horse, you'll climb mountains that over look the scenic Glover River, cross creeks, and breath the fresh air. What a day! You've spent 4 hours on the river and 1 hour riding a horse and made memories that will last a lifetime with your family! It's time to head back to the cabin and play some board games in the pavilion. Monopoly anyone?

Day 3 – Today you're going over to Beavers Bend Marina to rent a boat for a couple of hours to get out on the lake. Fishing, skiing, tubing, or just trolling along, you'll love the being on the water and the scenic views. Afterward, you can relax on the Beavers Bend train ride that winds though the state park, where you'll see wildlife, the lake, and streams. When the ride is over, go to the swimming area for a picnic and a little swim to cool off! Nothing beats a good competition! See who wins at miniature golf! Then, head over to the Forest Heritage center and learn about the logging industry, the geography, and view one-of-a-kind -art. You'll also want to stop in the gift shop to get a little memento. Now you see why so many people visit Beavers Bend every year! But, it's time to go back to your cabin and relax before you head down to the water for some evening fishing! It's your last night at the cabins, so you'll want to enjoy s'mores by the fire while telling ghost stories before bedtime!

Day 4 – It's time to pack up and load the car, but don't worry, you'll still have lots of fun before you get home! First, you'll head over to the Wildlife Museum and learn about all the animals in the exhibit and how they survive in the wild. Then, head over to Idabel to the Museum of the Red River and check out the Family Learning Center where you'll experience hands-on work stations for interactive family learning. The time spent learning together will give you plenty to talk about on your drive home.

What a trip! You've been canoeing, horseback riding, boating, hiking, fishing, swimming, learning about the forest, cultures, and wildlife, cooking out, relaxing, staying in an authentic log cabin and spending quality time with your family, building memories that will last a lifetime!

Gettin' Pool Ready for Summer!

Today we are repainting the swimming pool and getting it all ready for summer!  I can't believe that it's so close to Memorial Day and pool weather!  I am gearing up to enjoy laying out by the pool with a cold beverage and great book!  But first, we have some work to do to get it looking good!  I'll post a picture when we're finished!
