Friday
After you arrive,
you'll want sometime to unwind by the pool, cool off and just relax.
Then, the family can enjoy cooking hotdogs and hamburgers on the
grill. After you eat, the whole family can go down to the lake for
some evening fishing. Be sure and take a couple of chairs, spray
with bug repellent, and don't forget to take your camera. You'll
definitely want a picture of your children with their fish! When it
gets dark, you'll want to go to the fire pit gazebo to sit by a fire,
roasting marshmallows for s'mores!
Saturday

Today is a day
full of fun and adventure! You'll start by heading to Beavers Bend
State Park to canoe 2.5 miles in crystal clear water through the
scenic beauty of the park. After you've spend an hour and a half on
the water canoeing, you'll want to go to the Forest Heritage Center
museum. At the museum, you'll learn about the forestry industry
history and view antique tools of the trade. Stop at the
one-of-a-kind dioramas painted by the same artist who created smoky
bear and listen and learn about the Caddo Indians and paper making.
Checkout the chainsaw art and the wood art gallery. You'll even see
the rings of a tree dating back to before the civil war! Now that
you've canoed and know all about the forestry industry, it's time for
a family picnic. Who's up for a game of miniature golf? Who in the
family has the skills to get a hole-in-one? After the friendly
family golf competition, head over to the swim area and cool off!
Wow, it's time to relax and take in the scenery on a train ride
through the park. Sit back and enjoy the trip through the woods,
over the mountain, and by the water. After a full day at the state
park, you're ready to head back to the cabins. After a little
swimming in the pool and relaxing, you'll enjoy a family hike in the
McCurtain County Wilderness Area or maybe you'd rather take a family
bike ride down to the boat ramp. It's time to eat dinner, play some
games, and relax by the camp fire. It's been a great day: canoeing,
the museum, miniature golf, swimming, a train ride, relaxing and
hiking!
Sunday

They say the early
bird gets the worm, but for today it's the early bird that gets the
fish! Head on down to the water and catch a couple of fish before
you have to pack up and head back. Hopefully you'll have a couple
good fish stories to tell when you get back home! Although it's your
last day of your weekend retreat, you'll want to make the best of it!
On your way back, stop in Idabel at the Museum of the Red River
where you can experience hands-on work stations. It'll be a great
way to end your three day trip! Wow! What a weekend! Hiking,
canoeing, fishing, the train ride, museums, campfires, swimming...
It's great to get away and enjoy nature and family.
